Do's and Don'ts of Cosmetic Surgery

A Consumer's guideline to superior and safe outcomes

It is important that consumers who are considering cosmetic procedures to be properly educated about the procedures and the doctors administering them. Whether you are seeking spa treatments like chemical peels, laser treatments, and injections, or surgical procedures such as breast augmentation, tummy tucks, and liposuction, there are certain criteria that you should demand to ensure a safe, satisfactory experience.

Being an informed consumer is the first step to protecting your body and guaranteeing successful results. There is a multitude of information available in print and online to help consumers learn about products, procedures, outcomes, and potential risks before they visit doctors. We recommend that you augment the information on our site with articles from professional sites such as the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery and the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (for surgical procedures) and the American Dermatological Association for medical spa procedures. The manufacturers of specific products also have their own websites that provide information about risks and rewards associated with their products.

Finding a physician is much easier to do once you know a bit about the procedure that you desire. Researching Board Certification ensures that you will find a doctor who has reached a required level of expertise in his specialty field. Credentials can be verified through each doctor’s specialty board. It is important to independently verify that your doctor is actually Board Certified, and that the board is recognized by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. It is dangerous to assume that a doctor claiming to be a plastic surgeon is Board Certified.
A second factor in choosing a Plastic Surgeon is the facility in which the procedure will be performed. No matter the degree of invasiveness of the procedure being performed, it is important to verify that the facility is certified if certification is certified, and whether the physician or an assistant will perform the procedure. If an assistant is performing the procedure, they should be certified to perform it, and the physician should be available during the treatment. Operations that require general anesthesia should be performed in surgical centers or hospitals whose certification is recognized by agencies such as JACHO or AAAASF. Their certificates should be clearly visible.

Once you have verified the quality of the physician and the facility, peruse before and after pictures, talk to patients who have had similar procedures, research typical results, and take your time making a decision.

At Le MedSpa, our certified staff are happy to provide you with all of the information that you need to make an informed decision. We encourage you to educate yourself about your procedure, ask questions, and take the time to be comfortable with your choices. We hope that our service will improve your quality of life, and we look forward to taking the time to get to know you and your specific needs.
